Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi engaged in discussions over the phone on Wednesday regarding the ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Syria. The ministers jointly called for an immediate cessation of attacks targeting the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the conversation between Fidan and Safadi highlighted the urgency of ending the Israeli military actions, which have recently intensified. On Wednesday, Israel conducted airstrikes on Damascus, specifically targeting the Syrian Defense Ministry and areas near the presidential palace.

These attacks are part of a broader campaign by Israel, which has also resumed military operations in Syria's southern Suwayda province. Israel has issued warnings that the strikes will persist unless Syrian forces withdraw from the area. The Syrian army had previously deployed troops to Suwayda to quell unrest following deadly clashes between armed Druze and Bedouin groups, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 individuals.

Israel's military operations are purportedly aimed at safeguarding the Druze minority, as claimed by the Israeli army.
