Madrid: Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz is set to attend a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation-Arab League (OIC-AL) Gaza Contact Group in Madrid on Sunday. The meeting will include Gaza Contact Group members, as well as representatives from Spain, Ireland, Norway, and Slovenia, all of which have recognized the state of Palestine.
According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting is planned to be held in an expanded format, inviting many countries that support a two-state solution in Palestine. This gathering aims to further international efforts in recognizing the state of Palestine, reviving the peace process, and ultimately achieving a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Previously, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan attended the first such meeting in Madrid on September 13, 2024. Representatives from Norway, Ireland, Slovenia, and OIC-AL Gaza Contact Group member states such as Trkiye, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Nigeria participated in that meeting. Additionally, representatives from the EU, the Arab League, and the OIC were present.
The group is particularly focused on advancing the implementation of a two-state solution, especially within the European context. It played a key role in the Global Alliance initiative adopted during the 2024 UN General Assembly, which aims to implement the two-state solution.
