Washington: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in discussions regarding the outcomes of a significant meeting held in Washington, involving US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, along with other European leaders, as per Turkish diplomatic sources.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two officials also addressed the results of another crucial meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin that took place in Alaska on August 15. The discussions focused on potential future steps to bring an end to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Fidan emphasized Turkey's willingness to assist in any way possible to achieve a just and lasting peace.

A statement from US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott indicated that both Fidan and Rubio concurred on the urgency of halting the violence between the conflicting nations. Additionally, the conversation covered the ceasefire talks in the Gaza Strip, where Israeli actions have resulted in significant Palestinian casualties since October 2023. Fidan stressed the necessity for an immediate and sustained delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.

The dialogue between the diplomats also touched on developments in Syria following the conclusion of the Baath Party's regime after 61 years. The formation of a new transitional administration under President Ahmad al-Sharaa in January was noted, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Syria's peace, unity, and territorial integrity.

Furthermore, regional issues like the recent US-brokered peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8, and concerns regarding Iran's nuclear program were also part of the discussions, according to Pigott.
