Zaporizhzhia: Ukraine reported that at least one person was killed and 46 others were injured following overnight Russian airstrikes on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Zaporizhzhia Governor Ivan Fedorov stated on Telegram that additional examinations of individuals seeking medical attention are ongoing. As of 12:00 (1000GMT), a total of 46 people have approached medical facilities for help. Medics continue to assist those injured, with 22 individuals, including a 2-month-old infant, having been hospitalized.

The city experienced two airstrikes overnight. Governor Fedorov described the first strike as a drone attack targeting an energy facility, which caused widespread blackouts. The subsequent ballistic missile strike injured personnel who were addressing the aftermath of the initial attack. More than 20,000 subscribers are currently without electricity, and another 17,000 are without heat supply.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized on X that these attacks necessitate increased pressure on Russia, advocating for more sanctions against Russia and an enhanced supply of air defense systems and weapons for Ukraine. Ukraine's Air Force reported that four Iskander-M missiles were fired on Zaporizhzhia. Air defenses managed to down 57 out of 92 drones launched by Russia across eight regions of Ukraine, including Zaporizhzhia.

Russian authorities have yet to comment on the attack. Zaporizhzhia, located 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the front line with Moscow, has been frequently targeted by airstrikes during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has persisted for over 1,000 days.
