Hanoi: Vietnam's ruling Communist Party unanimously re-elected 68-year-old To Lam as general secretary for the 2026-2031 term, according to an announcement on the government news portal. The decision was made during the first plenum of the 14th Central Committee for the term, which convened on Friday morning at the Party Central Committee headquarters, marking the formal start of the new term.

According to Anadolu Agency, the plenum completed a series of key tasks including the election of the politburo, the party secretary general, and the secretariat. This significant event was part of the broader activities of the five-day 14th National Congress of the Communist Party.

The Congress concluded with a closing session in Hanoi, where delegates reviewed key reports, solidifying the direction and leadership for the upcoming term. The re-election of To Lam is seen as a continuation of the current policies and strategies set by the Communist Party leadership.
