Marib: The Yemeni army has announced that it conducted drone strikes targeting Houthi fighters and vehicles in the central province of Marib on Friday evening. The army's media center confirmed that drones focused on the "Houthi militia members and vehicles" positioned on the frontlines northwest of Marib.
According to Anadolu Agency, the army released video footage purportedly showing the strikes and the destruction of military vehicles. However, the statement did not provide specifics regarding casualties or the total number of drones used in the operation. As of 1700GMT, the Houthis have yet to respond to these claims.
The conflict in Yemen escalated in 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi group took control of vast regions, including the capital, Sanaa. This led to prolonged hostilities between the Houthis and Yemeni government forces, who are supported by a Saudi-led coalition. The situation has intensified since the onset of the Israel-Gaza conflict in 2023, with the Houthis increasingly participating in regional hostilities by launching missile attacks on Israel and targeting Israel-linked commercial shipping in the Red Sea.
The increased military activity, along with the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, has sparked concerns about a possible resurgence of full-scale conflict in Yemen, a nation already grappling with severe humanitarian challenges.
