Abu haraz: Worsening insecurity has forced around 2,600 more civilians to flee the towns of Abu Haraz and Kazgil in Sudan's North Kordofan state in two days, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Sunday.
According to Anadolu Agency, the UN agency reported that the new wave of displacement was observed on April 29-30 due to the deteriorating security conditions in these areas. The displaced civilians have sought refuge in the Sheikan district, also located in North Kordofan.
The IOM highlighted that the situation remains highly tense and volatile. The conflict in Sudan, which started in April 2023, is between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The contention arose from disagreements over integration into the military. This ongoing conflict has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands, the displacement of approximately 13 million people, and has pushed parts of the country toward famine, marking it as one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises.
