Cyprus and Armenia should strengthen cooperation to confront shared regional challenges and provocations, stressed the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, during a meeting in Nicosia with Hayk Konjoryan, Chairman of the Armenia-Cyprus Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Armenia's National Assembly. Demetriou emphasized the importance of both countries standing together against violations of international law, as they face similar threats in their regions. In her opening remarks, Demetriou highlighted the long-standing relationship between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of a unified approach in confronting shared challenges. "For us, Armenia is a friendly ally that faces the same provocations and challenges as Cyprus," Demetriou said. She stressed the necessity for Cyprus and Armenia to strengthen cooperation in the face of violations of international law, mentioning the ongoing regional tensions both countries face. Demetriou expressed Cyprus' firm support for Armenia in international forums, particularly considering the recent conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. She stressed Cyprus' consistent advocacy for Armenia on issues such as the Armenian Genocide and the forced displacement of people from Nagorno-Karabakh, reaffirming Cyprus' solidarity on these critical matters. Hayk Konjoryan, in response, expressed his gratitude for Cyprus' unwavering support for Armenia. He emphasized the centuries-long connection between the Armenian and Cypriot peoples, noting that Cyprus' support has been deeply felt, particularly in the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh. "We always feel your strong support," Konjoryan noted, adding his appreciation for Cyprus' role in international advocacy. He also highlighted recent advancements in bilateral relations, including the decision to open embassies in Nicosia and Yerevan, which he hopes will elevate their partnership.
