Beirut: US envoy Amos Hochstein announced on Tuesday that a cease-fire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah is 'within our grasp,' indicating significant progress in efforts to end the ongoing conflict. Hochstein made this statement during a press conference in Beirut after his discussions with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri. According to Anadolu Agency, Hochstein emphasized the importance of decision-making at this crucial juncture, expressing his role in facilitating the talks but clarifying that the ultimate decision rests with the involved parties. He described his discussions with Berri as 'very constructive' and highlighted the narrowing of gaps through recent talks. Hochstein expressed hope for a resolute decision in the coming days. The envoy is set to meet with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati later on Tuesday to further explore the cease-fire possibilities. Additionally, he plans to visit Israel on Wednesday as part of the US mediation efforts to broker a cease-fire agree ment, aiming to end over a year of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel. Last week, Speaker Berri confirmed that Beirut had received a US proposal for a cease-fire, while rejecting any terms allowing the Israeli army freedom of movement in Lebanon, citing concerns over national sovereignty. The ongoing conflict has seen Israel engaged in cross-border warfare, including an air campaign targeting Hezbollah positions since September, resulting in significant casualties and displacement within Lebanon. Lebanese health authorities report that more than 3,500 people have been killed, nearly 15,000 injured, and over a million displaced due to Israeli attacks since last October. The conflict escalated with a ground assault launched by Israel into southern Lebanon on October 1st.
