Latakia: Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa visited the coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartus on Sunday, marking his first visit to these regions since assuming office. Crowds gathered to welcome the president, showcasing a significant display of support from the local population.

According to Anadolu Agency, state-run Syrian television reported on Telegram that President Ahmed al-Sharaa received a warm welcome from the residents of Latakia. This reception was described as a reflection of the unity among Syrians under his leadership. The broadcaster highlighted Latakia's ongoing phase of reconstruction and stability, aligning with Syria's goals for a promising future.

President al-Sharaa's itinerary also included a visit to Tartus. Meanwhile, the official SANA news agency noted that the president met with influential figures in Aleppo province, including Afrin and its surrounding areas, earlier in the day. His engagements in Aleppo followed a meeting with community leaders from Idlib province, highlighting his active involvement in regional affairs.

The backdrop to these visits includes significant political changes in Syria. On December 8 of the previous year, Syrian factions took control of Damascus and other key cities, ending over six decades of Baath Party rule and the Assad family's dominance. Former leader Bashar Assad fled to Russia at that time.

On January 29, the new Syrian administration appointed Ahmed al-Sharaa as transitional president. His administration announced several pivotal changes, including the dissolution of armed factions, security agencies from the former regime, the parliament, and the Baath Party, as well as the abolishment of the previous constitution.
