Hurghada: Six Russians were killed and 39 foreign tourists were rescued after a tourist submarine sank off Egypt's Red Sea city of Hurghada, Egyptian authorities announced on Thursday. 'There are no missing people in the sinking of the tourist submarine in Hurghada,' Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafi stated in a press release.

According to Anadolu Agency, Governor Hanafi confirmed that the submarine possessed a valid license and the crew captain was equipped with the necessary academic certifications. 'Coordination and communication are ongoing with all embassies, consulates, and relevant authorities, to provide all necessary facilitation, issue required documents for the passengers, and ensure all aspects of medical care are delivered,' he added.

While Hanafi did not specify the nationalities of the deceased victims, the Red Sea Governorate confirmed that the six fatalities were Russian nationals. The statement also detailed that the submarine was carrying a total of 50 individuals, comprising 45 tourists from Russia, India, Norway, and Sweden, in addition to a crew of five Egyptians.
