Giresun: Trkiye's Trade Minister Omer Bolat announced that the country is set to engage in tariff negotiations with the United States in a manner that emphasizes mutual understanding and constructive dialogue. "The first contacts on this issue have already been made, and will be held at the ministerial level in the coming days," Bolat stated during economic meetings in Giresun.
According to Anadolu Agency, Bolat addressed reporters, highlighting concerns raised by US President Donald Trump's tariff decisions and the subsequent retaliatory measures by other nations, which have generated significant instability in the global economy. Despite these challenges, Bolat expressed Trkiye's commitment to engaging in positive and constructive negotiations with the US to mitigate the impact of a potential 10% tariff.
Bolat emphasized the implications of global trade developments on other countries and Trkiye's trade relations. He noted the importance of ensuring that Trkiye does not become a dumping ground for goods, particularly from rival nations, and reiterated the country's commitment to leveraging international trade rules to protect its interests.
He further remarked on the challenges faced by the World Trade Organization due to unilateral trade decisions, which have disrupted the multilateral, rule-based system. Bolat expressed hope for a resolution that supports global growth and maintains trade as a driving force for economic progress worldwide.
