Pahalgam: The G7 issued a joint statement with the EU condemning the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, India, and urged both India and Pakistan to exercise "maximum restraint" to prevent further military escalation. The statement was issued by the G7 foreign ministers alongside the High Representative of the EU.

According to Anadolu Agency, the statement described the attack as "egregious" and highlighted that ongoing tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors "pose a serious threat to regional stability." The foreign ministers expressed concern for the safety of civilians on both sides of the contested border region.

The statement urged for immediate de-escalation and encouraged India and Pakistan to engage in direct dialogue towards a peaceful resolution. The G7 and EU representatives emphasized their commitment to monitoring the situation closely and expressed support for a swift and lasting diplomatic resolution.

The G7 consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US. Tensions between India and Pakistan increased this week after India launched "Operation Sindoor" on Tuesday, targeting "terrorist infrastructure" at nine locations in Pakistan.

The Pakistani military reported that 31 victims were killed in Indian missile attacks and cross-border firing in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Additionally, officials reported at least 16 fatalities along the Line of Control in Indian-administered Kashmir.
