Trkiye’s Foreign Minister and US Secretary of State Deliberate on Bilateral Ties and Regional Challenges

Ankara: Trkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in a discussion on Monday focusing on bilateral ties and regional issues, including Syria, Gaza, and Ukraine, as reported by Turkish diplomatic sources.

According to Anadolu Agency, during the phone conversation, Fidan emphasized the significance of lifting sanctions on Syria to enhance the country's stability and prosperity. The dialogue also touched upon the release of Israeli US citizen Edan Alexander by Hamas and the forthcoming peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

The peace negotiations are set to be held in Istanbul, Trkiye, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy showing willingness to accept Moscow's proposal to restart discussions. Further, the conversation included discussions on Rubio's upcoming visit to Trkiye for the Informal NATO Foreign Ministers' Meeting scheduled to occur in Antalya on May 14-15.
