Muscat: The sixth round of Iran-US nuclear talks scheduled for this Sunday in Muscat has been called off, Oman's foreign minister confirmed on Saturday. Badr Albusaidi announced on X that the talks will not take place, though he emphasized that diplomacy and dialogue remain essential for lasting peace.

According to Anadolu Agency, the cancellation follows a series of strikes by Israel against Iranian territory, targeting nuclear and missile facilities. These attacks, which began early Friday, resulted in the deaths of senior military figures and scientists. Iran's UN envoy reported at least 78 fatalities and 320 injuries from the strikes. In retaliation, Iran launched its own attacks on Friday, leading to the deaths of at least three people.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi communicated to the EU's foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, that continuing the indirect talks after the Israeli attacks would be "unjustifiable." The US, on the other hand, has demanded that Iran halt its uranium enrichment activities and ensure it never develops a nuclear weapon. Iran maintains that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.

President Donald Trump on Friday called on Iran to negotiate over its nuclear program before it is too late. He had withdrawn from the 2015 nuclear deal during his first term in 2018.
