Stockholm: Russia has accused Swedish authorities of failing to prevent repeated drone attacks on its trade mission in Stockholm, following another incident early Saturday morning.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Russian Embassy in Stockholm reported that a drone dropped a package containing paint on its trade mission building, marking the second occurrence in recent weeks after a similar attack on June 17.
The Russian Embassy highlighted that these attacks on both the Embassy and the Trade Mission have persisted for over a year. Despite repeated appeals to the Swedish police and the Foreign Ministry, the embassy stated that no effective measures have been taken to address the issue. The embassy has demanded a thorough investigation into the current and previous UAV attacks, the identification and prosecution of the perpetrators, and the implementation of measures to prevent future incidents.
The Russian side expressed concerns regarding the Swedish authorities' capability or willingness to protect diplomatic missions, as stipulated under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The embassy's statement emphasized that Swedish authorities must recognize their full responsibility for the ongoing situation.
Russia considers the trade mission an essential component of its diplomatic presence in Sweden. Russian diplomatic missions in Stockholm have faced multiple acts of vandalism or aggression since Moscow launched its full-scale war on Ukraine in 2022.
