Washington: US President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that the tariffs outlined in recent tariff letters will be implemented starting August 1, 2025, without any possibility of extension.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump emphasized this stance through a social media post, clarifying that the tariffs specified in communications dispatched to several countries will be enforced without delay. "As per letters sent to various countries yesterday, in addition to letters that will be sent today, tomorrow, and for the next short period of time, TARIFFS WILL START BEING PAID ON AUGUST 1, 2025," Trump asserted. He further stressed, "There has been no change to this date, and there will be no change. In other words, all money will be due and payable starting AUGUST 1, 2025 - No extensions will be granted."

On Monday, Trump utilized social media to disseminate tariff letters, detailing tariff rates for 14 countries, which include Tunisia, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Japan, South Africa, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Indonesia, Serbia, Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos. These countries are facing tariffs ranging from 25% to 40%.

The letters, addressed to the respective leaders of these nations, highlighted the non-reciprocal nature of the current trade relationships with the US. Trump urged these countries to consider manufacturing their goods in the US as a strategy to circumvent these tariffs. He mentioned that the imposed tariffs are "far less than" what would be required to completely rectify the existing trade imbalances with the US.

Trump also cautioned that any retaliatory tariffs from these countries could result in the US increasing its tariffs beyond the initially set rates. In a related move, the US president signed a decree extending the tariff grace period, initially due to expire on July 9, until August 1, providing a limited window for affected countries to adjust to the new trade measures.
