Ankara: Germany's foreign minister announced that the recognition process for the Palestinian state "must begin now," in a press release ahead of his visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories. Johann Wadephul emphasized that while Germany views recognition as the ultimate goal, initiating the process is crucial at this juncture.

According to Anadolu Agency, Wadephul highlighted that Germany remains committed to a two-state solution as the "only way" to achieve lasting peace, security, and dignity for both Israelis and Palestinians. He mentioned the growing international readiness, particularly among European nations, to recognize a Palestinian state without prior negotiations due to recent threats of annexation by parts of the Israeli government. "The region and the Middle East peace process are thus at a crossroads," he noted.

Wadephul further expressed Germany's "special responsibility for Israel" and the need for Israel to provide immediate and comprehensive relief for the dire situation in Gaza. He stated Germany's readiness to support efforts to alleviate suffering in the region.

The foreign minister also indicated that Germany will participate in the airdropping of aid supplies in the coming days and is working to establish a humanitarian land route. He urged the Israeli government to allow safe and effective distribution of aid by the UN and international organizations, stressing that land access is essential for delivering sufficient supplies to those in need.
