Ankara: Japan's Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Thursday called for an "early and comprehensive" ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Ishiba emphasized that an early and comprehensive ceasefire, along with the realization of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, are shared goals. He urged Western nations to remain united in their efforts to achieve these objectives, as per a statement from the Foreign Ministry.

According to Anadolu Agency, Ishiba made these remarks during the Virtual Leaders Meeting of the Coalition of the Willing on Ukraine. He praised US President Donald Trump's efforts to broker a ceasefire and "strongly" urged Russia to take positive steps ahead of the upcoming meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Trump in Alaska on Friday.

The Japanese premier expressed a "strong sense of crisis" about the situation in Ukraine, warning that similar conflicts could also arise in East Asia. The statement further highlighted Ishiba's concerns about the military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, describing it as a matter of global security concerns.
