Beirut: A Lebanese man was killed in an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon early Thursday in what local media reports as a violation of last year's ceasefire. The strike targeted a motorcycle in the town of Deir Siryan, critically injuring the rider, who was later pronounced dead, according to the state news agency NNA.

According to Anadolu Agency, the incident followed another Israeli drone strike just hours earlier, in which at least seven people were injured when a car was targeted in the al-Housh area, east of Tyre. These attacks are the latest in the ongoing conflict that escalated after Israel launched a military offensive in Lebanon on October 8, 2023. This conflict spiraled into a full-scale war by September 2024, resulting in the deaths of over 4,000 people and injuring approximately 17,000.

A ceasefire was reached in November; however, Israeli forces have conducted near-daily operations in southern Lebanon, citing Hezbollah activities as the reason. Under the terms of the truce, Israel was expected to fully withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was extended to February 18 after Tel Aviv's refusal to comply. Despite the extended deadline, Israel continues to maintain a military presence at five border outposts.
