Santa teresa: The US administration will paint sections of its border wall with Mexico black in an effort to deter illegal crossings, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Tuesday. Noem announced the measure during a visit to Santa Teresa on New Mexico's southern border, stressing that the order came directly from President Donald Trump.

According to Anadolu Agency, Noem highlighted that the decision to paint the wall black is aimed at exploiting the region's hot temperatures. The idea is that the black paint will absorb more heat, making the surface of the wall warmer and more difficult to climb. "That is specifically at the request of the president, who understands that in the hot temperatures down here, when something is painted black, it gets even warmer, and it will make it even harder for people to climb," Noem said.

She elaborated that while the height and depth of the barriers already serve as a deterrent to crossings, the addition of black paint is expected to enhance their effectiveness further. In addition to painting the walls, the Department of Homeland Security will also install technological equipment, including cameras and sensors, to bolster security along the border.

Noem emphasized that the primary goal of these changes is to discourage migrants from attempting to enter the US illegally. She added that migrants are encouraged to enter the country through legal channels, allowing them the opportunity to eventually become United States citizens and pursue the American dream.
