Jerusalem: The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has called on Israel to accept its role in the famine affecting the Gaza Strip and urged influential nations to take immediate action to resolve the crisis. Philippe Lazzarini, speaking on social media platform X, emphasized the urgency of the situation by stating, "It's time for the Government of Israel to stop denying the famine it has created in Gaza."

According to Anadolu Agency, the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a UN-backed global hunger monitor, confirmed that famine conditions have been established in Gaza governorate. It is projected that these conditions will expand to central and southern areas of the enclave by the end of September. The ongoing military campaign by Israel has resulted in the deaths of more than 62,000 Palestinians since October 2023, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis with starvation, forced migration, and disease.

In addition to these developments, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Furthermore, Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in the enclave.
