Tel aviv: Israel's main airport temporarily halted flight operations on Monday following a missile strike from Yemen, local media said. Israel's public broadcaster KAN reported that air traffic at Ben Gurion Airport was temporarily suspended, affecting the takeoff and landing of several flights, including those operated by El Al, Israir, and Arkia airlines.
According to Anadolu Agency, a military statement confirmed that air defenses intercepted a missile launched from Yemen. The missile triggered air-raid sirens in multiple areas, including the Greater Tel Aviv area and the Southern Coastal Plain, which are densely populated by millions of Israelis.
Yemen's Houthi group has confirmed the attack, stating that it targeted several sensitive locations with a hypersonic ballistic missile equipped with multiple warheads. The group further claimed that two vital Israeli targets were hit by drones in the southern city of Eilat.
This attack occurred three days after Israel conducted airstrikes on Houthi sites in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, resulting in the deaths of at least eight individuals and injuries to more than 140 others. The Houthis and Israel have been involved in a series of exchanges in recent months, amid escalating tensions over Tel Aviv's ongoing military actions in the Gaza Strip, where over 66,000 people have lost their lives since October 2023.
