Ankara: Trkiye's upcoming 5G connectivity infrastructure will serve as the foundation for its future digital ecosystem, 'transforming the country into a technology hub, producing domestic 5G technologies, which will then be used in the global market,' the Turkish transportation and infrastructure minister told Anadolu.
According to Anadolu Agency, Abdulkadir Uraloglu stated that 5G is not merely a faster connection but is set to be the foundation of a smarter, more reliable digital ecosystem. Uraloglu noted that preparations to make 5G available nationwide have reached their final stage, with the 5G tender scheduled for Oct. 16 in Ankara.
The minister highlighted Trkiye's investment in transitioning to 5G while also positioning itself as a key player in 6G, mentioning the acquisition of some patents toward that goal. He emphasized the importance of not only working on 5G but preparing for projects beyond, indicating continued collaboration with various institutions to advance Trkiye in communications technology.
Uraloglu stressed the prioritization of using domestic products in the country's 5G infrastructure, with an aim to increase local 5G-related production. The 'End-to-End National 5G Project' is set to produce base stations and core network components within Trkiye. There will be a requirement to use up to 60% domestically produced product content and up to 30% homegrown communications products to reduce foreign dependence and contribute to the economy's current account balance.
The minister further explained that 5G, with its high data speed, low latency, and wide connection capacity, not only enhances the experience for individual users but also enables groundbreaking applications in areas like smart cities, 'Industry 4.0,' health care, and self-driving vehicles. The effective use of this technology is expected to have significant benefits for society and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.
Uraloglu noted that Trkiye's active participation and development of 5G will enhance technological progress and its competitiveness in the global arena. He concluded by stating that with 5G, Trkiye will enter a new era, breaking down barriers in various fields and enabling instant data communication with low latency.
