Khartoum: The Sudanese army on Saturday continued advancing in the states of North and West Kordofan in the south of the country after launching attacks on the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) positions along the El-Obeid and El-Khuwei-Al-Nahud, according to military sources.

According to Anadolu Agency, military sources reported that army forces conducted ground assaults backed by heavy artillery strikes on RSF concentrations in areas west of El-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan. The targeted areas included Al-Ayara, Abu Qaoud, Abu Sunun, and Umm Sumayma.

The Sudanese military sources indicated that the attacks resulted in significant human losses for the RSF and the destruction of several combat vehicles. Furthermore, the army deployed drones to strike RSF gatherings along the El-Khuwei-Al-Nahud axis in West Kordofan, successfully destroying fuel trucks utilized by the RSF for their military operations.

These developments occur as part of the army's ongoing strategy to establish control over North Kordofan State, following recent advances in regions north and west of El-Obeid. On Friday, the army successfully repelled an RSF attack on the town of Babanusa in West Kordofan and expelled RSF and Sudan People's Movement forces from the town of Kartala in South Kordofan.

The renewed hostilities are part of a broader conflict that erupted in April 2023, resulting in intense clashes across the three Kordofan states-North, West, and South-between the army and the RSF. Currently, the RSF controls all five states of the Darfur region in the west, except for some northern parts of North Darfur that remain under army control. Conversely, the army maintains control over the majority of the remaining 13 states in the south, north, east, and center, including the national capital, Khartoum.
