Ramallah: The Palestinian Prisoners Society has raised alarms over the Israeli army’s actions in the occupied West Bank, highlighting that the military detains, interrogates, and subjects hundreds of Palestinians to ill-treatment on a weekly basis.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Palestinian Prisoners Society reported that while many of these detainees are released after a few hours or days, the scale of the detentions remains significant. Emani Serahine, the media officer of the Palestinian Prisoners Society, emphasized that the Israeli army only publicizes the number of individuals it officially arrests and holds in detention centers, omitting cases of temporary detentions and other forms of mistreatment.

Serahine elaborated that during a recent Israeli military operation on November 26 in Tubas, 162 Palestinians were documented as detained, a figure that contrasts with the Israeli army’s claim of only ‘dozens’ of arrests. The operations reportedly include field interrogations involving severe beatings, provocations, and threats, with soldiers allegedly destroying personal belongings and stealing money during home raids.

The Israeli military had previously launched a large-scale operation in Tubas, distributing leaflets in Arabic warning residents that their area was considered a “nest of terror.” The leaflets further warned that if the situation persisted, Tubas could face the same fate as Jenin and Tulkarem, where over 42,000 Palestinians were forcibly displaced from refugee camps. The military’s presence continues to prevent residents from returning to their homes, and extensive demolitions have been documented in these regions.
