Washington: The US Homeland Security Department (DHS) announced on Monday that it is temporarily increasing the incentive for undocumented migrants to voluntarily self-deport by the end of the year. The department is tripling the stipend from $1,000 to $3,000 in a bid to encourage more migrants to take advantage of the offer.

According to Anadolu Agency, undocumented migrants who choose to register their departure through the CBP Home mobile app will not only receive the increased stipend but will also be provided with a flight to their home countries. The app registration also allows recipients to qualify for forgiveness of any civil fines or penalties for failing to depart the country previously.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized that the increased "exit bonus" is available only until the end of the year. She noted that since January, 1.9 million individuals have voluntarily self-deported, with tens of thousands utilizing the CBP Home program. Secretary Noem urged undocumented migrants to "take advantage of this gift and self-deport because if they don't, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will never return."
