Manama: Bahrain's Interior Ministry has announced the arrest of five individuals accused of gathering and transmitting 'precise and sensitive information' to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). A sixth suspect involved in the case has reportedly fled the country.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Interior Ministry stated that the group was involved in collecting and providing critical information to the IRGC through contacts with 'terrorist elements in Iran.' The suspects were allegedly recruited to participate in terrorist plots aimed at compromising Bahrain's sovereignty and targeting its security institutions and economic entities. The intended outcome of these plots was to incite fear and terror among the population and threaten the nation's security and safety.

One of the detained suspects confessed to having undergone extensive training in IRGC-run camps. This training reportedly covered smuggling operations and the recruitment of members for executing terrorist activities. The ministry highlighted that the suspects had documented and relayed the locations of several critical sites and hotels to the IRGC, which facilitated potential targeting by Iranian forces.

Bahrain's defense systems have reportedly intercepted and neutralized 125 missiles and 211 drones aimed at the country since the onset of Iranian hostilities on February 28. However, there has been no immediate response from Iran regarding the accusations made by Bahrain.

The backdrop to these developments includes ongoing military actions by the US and Israel against Iran, which commenced on February 28. These actions have resulted in over 1,200 fatalities, including the death of Iran's former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several senior military figures. In retaliation, Tehran has launched missile and drone strikes at Israel, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military forces, causing both casualties and significant damage to civilian infrastructure such as airports, ports, and buildings.
