Jerusalem: US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that Arab countries need to join efforts to ensure the Strait of Hormuz remains open, emphasizing that nations reliant on oil transported through this vital passageway have a responsibility to help secure it.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed in an interview with Israeli Channel 14 that the United States, due to its energy independence, should not shoulder the burden alone. He argued that countries benefiting from the oil flow through the strait must be actively involved in its defense and security. Trump reassured that while the US would continue to provide assistance, it is imperative for other nations to participate in the efforts.

Trump also commented on the ongoing military operation against Iran, describing it as "progressing wonderfully" and expressing confidence in its current direction. The US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which began on February 28, have reportedly resulted in around 1,200 casualties, including the death of then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Strait of Hormuz has been largely closed since early March due to Iranian retaliatory strikes. This closure has disrupted the passage of approximately 20 million barrels of oil daily, leading to a surge in global oil prices.
