Islamabad: Pakistan warned on Sunday that Islamophobia "exacerbates" existing tensions and conflicts, emphasizing the global community's commitment to advancing international efforts to combat Islamophobia.

According to Anadolu Agency, in recent years, the rise in Islamophobia has manifested in troubling incidents worldwide. These include the desecration of the Holy Quran, attacks on women for wearing the hijab, vandalism of mosques, religious profiling, and anti-Muslim sentiments in public discourse and media, as highlighted by Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. His statement was made in observance of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

The statement from Pakistan indicated that Islamophobia exacerbates existing tensions and conflicts, creating a cycle that poses a threat to international peace and security. Pakistan expressed its solidarity with Muslims globally and reiterated its commitment to fighting prejudice, discrimination, hostility, and violence against Muslims. The nation emphasized its dedication to advancing international efforts to counter Islamophobia.

Islamabad called upon the international community to condemn Islamophobia and address the underlying structural conditions that allow it to persist. The call included a push for mutual respect, dialogue, and understanding among communities, as well as a commitment to values such as tolerance, dignity, and peaceful coexistence.

The UN General Assembly had previously adopted a resolution in 2022, declaring March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.
