Riyadh: The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia has issued an advisory urging American nationals to reconsider undertaking the Hajj pilgrimage this year due to escalating regional tensions. This advice aligns with the Saudi Arabia Travel Advisory and stems from the current security situation and potential travel disruptions.

According to Anadolu Agency, the embassy highlighted the requirement for individuals entering Mecca from April 18 onwards to possess a Hajj permit, a residency ID issued from Mecca, or a valid work permit for Mecca. Those with other visa types are advised to leave Mecca before the specified date. The Hajj pilgrimage, an integral pillar of Islamic faith, mandates that Muslims who are financially and physically able must perform it at least once in their lifetime.

In addition to cautioning against participation in the pilgrimage, the embassy has advised US citizens to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia altogether. This advisory comes in the wake of heightened regional escalations following the joint offensive by Israel and the US against Iran on February 28. In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries with US military bases, leading to casualties, infrastructural damage, and disruptions in global markets and aviation.
