Ankara: A Turkish medical team has performed the world's very first eight-way cross-liver transplant, the country's health minister announced on Tuesday. The groundbreaking procedure was conducted by Professor Sezai Yilmaz and his team at Inonu University, marking a significant achievement in medical history.

According to Anadolu Agency, Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu lauded the accomplishment on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal. He congratulated the team for their pioneering work, calling it a milestone for Inonu University's Liver Transplant Institute. Memisoglu emphasized that Trkiye has now become a globally recognized center for liver transplantation, largely due to the expertise and dedication of the scientists and physicians trained at the Eastern Anatolia-based university.

Memisoglu highlighted that approximately 1,800 liver transplants are performed in Trkiye annually, with over 300 of these procedures taking place at Inonu University's esteemed institute. He further commended the medical team for their significant contributions to the advancement of healthcare and medical science, reinforcing Trkiye's position as a leader in liver transplantation.
