Ankara: Sweden has signed a final agreement to supply Poland with three A26 submarines under a contract worth approximately 50 billion Swedish kronor ($5.3 billion), Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced Monday. "This is a historic milestone for both Poland and Sweden," Kristersson stated on US social media company X, highlighting that the agreement would bolster the Polish Navy to become "one of the strongest in all of NATO" and enhance security in the Baltic Sea.
According to Anadolu Agency, the contract includes the delivery of three A26 submarines, with the first set for 2031. In the interim, Sweden will lease one of its submarines to Poland, with training for Polish sailors scheduled to commence in August. The project is anticipated to create over 7,000 jobs in Poland, involving numerous Polish companies as subcontractors for Saab, which intends to invest up to £100 million ($117 million) in the nation.
Kristersson also noted that the submarines will be constructed at Saab shipyards located in Landskrona and Karlskrona, generating additional employment opportunities in Sweden.
