Istanbul: Trkiye's National Women's Volleyball Team defeated Latvia 3-0 on Friday in their opening Group A match of the Trendyol 2026 European Women's Volleyball Championship. Playing at Istanbul's Sinan Erdem Sports Hall, Trkiye won the sets 25-17, 25-16, and 25-16.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trkiye made a strong start to the match and took control of the opening set behind effective serving and attacks from Melissa Vargas, building a 19-12 lead before closing out the set 25-17. The hosts carried their momentum into the second set with a 7-0 run. Latvia managed to narrow the Sultans of the Net's lead later in the set, but Trkiye regained control and sealed a 25-16 win with a middle attack from Zehra Gunes.

Trkiye maintained their dominance in the third set, taking it 25-16 to complete the straight-set victory. The match clocked in at 77 minutes.

Trkiye is next set to take on Slovenia at 1600GMT Sunday. The championship tournament is set to last through Sept. 6. Trkiye are the reigning champions.
