Gaza ‘Humanitarian Catastrophe’ Impacting Support in Pro-Israel Nations, Says Poland

Warsaw: Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski has raised concerns over the 'humanitarian catastrophe' in Gaza, stating that it, along with the lack of accountability for the Israeli military's actions, is diminishing public support even in countries that traditionally support Israel.

According to Anadolu Agency, Sikorski made these comments on the social media platform X, emphasizing that mutual respect is essential in partnerships. He pointed out that the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the absence of accountability for the Israeli Defense Forces' (IDF) 'excessive use of force' are eroding support in pro-Israel nations.

These remarks follow the Polish Foreign Ministry's expression of 'great disappointment' regarding the Israeli military's decision to cease investigations into the April 1, 2024, shelling of a World Central Kitchen humanitarian aid convoy in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the death of Polish citizen Damian Sobol. The ministry revealed that the Israeli ambassador in Warsaw was summoned after Poland was informed of this decision on August 19.

Warsaw has communicated a critical evaluation of the actions taken to elucidate the incident's circumstances and has demanded that Israel provide all necessary explanations and materials requested by Polish investigators. Additionally, the District Prosecutor's Office in Przemysl is conducting its own investigation into the matter.

The Polish ministry stressed the importance of fully clarifying the circumstances surrounding the 2024 tragedy and expressed its refusal to accept any evasion of legal and moral responsibility by the perpetrators. It further asserted that the families affected by the incident deserve appropriate redress.
