Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence on Saturday that the forthcoming legislative elections will affirm the stability of the Russian state. 'I am confident that the upcoming elections will confirm the stability of the state,' Putin stated during an address at the congress of United Russia, the ruling party of the country.

According to Anadolu Agency, Putin noted that the elections, scheduled for September 18-20, would demonstrate the "maturity" of Russia's political system. He emphasized the country's resilience against 'any external threats, blackmail, or aggression,' and highlighted that the elections would reflect the 'shared will of millions of people and their desire to ensure Russia's sovereignty and security.'

Putin underscored the ongoing development and implementation of large-scale projects aimed at enhancing public administration quality, defense capabilities, and economic and social progress, despite existing challenges. He stressed that these initiatives are essential for strengthening Russia's sovereignty, security, and international standing.

Furthermore, Putin reaffirmed Russia's commitment to conducting elections at various levels across the nation. He also accused Kyiv of intensifying 'brutal and barbaric' attacks as the conflict in Ukraine escalates. The September elections will decide all 450 seats in the 9th convocation of Russia's State Duma, the lower house of the bicameral parliament.

The tensions between Moscow and Kyiv have led to increased targeting of each other's logistics centers, as well as port and energy infrastructure, in recent months. Both nations deny intentionally targeting civilian infrastructure, asserting that their strikes are focused on military targets or facilities associated with military activities.
