Ankara:Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian informed Russian President Vladimir Putin that Iran and the United States have exchanged new proposals aimed at ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. This discussion occurred during their meeting in Turkmenistan, where they focused on expanding bilateral economic and strategic cooperation.
According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States leaders' summit and a Caspian Sea environmental summit. The leaders reviewed progress in bilateral relations and discussed strengthening cooperation in energy, agriculture, transportation, and trade.
The two presidents emphasized the importance of accelerating the completion of joint projects and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation to support national interests and regional stability. Despite ongoing conflicts, Pezeshkian confirmed Iran's intent to continue negotiations with the US, stating that Iran would not abandon dialogue.
Pezeshkian revealed that both Tehran and Washington had submitted and revised proposals, with plans to finalize them through intermediaries. He expressed gratitude to Russia for its support on regional issues and at the UN, highlighting the opportunity to strengthen Tehran-Moscow cooperation.
Putin, who recently spoke with Pezeshkian by phone about the Iran-US negotiations, reiterated his readiness to support diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. The discussions in Turkmenistan coincided with Putin's attendance at the CIS and Caspian Sea summits, which focused on regional cooperation and environmental issues.
