Accra:Swedish opposition leader Magdalena Andersson announced on Tuesday that she has not yet succeeded in forming a government following the September election. Despite this, she remains prepared to face a parliamentary vote on her candidacy for prime minister.
According to Anadolu Agency, Andersson's center-left bloc narrowly secured 176 seats compared to the right-wing coalition's 173. However, disagreements persist regarding the composition of the new government.
After discussions with Parliamentary Speaker Andreas Norlen, Andersson, leader of the Social Democrats, mentioned that while negotiations have advanced, they have not yielded enough support to form a government that the Riksdag would accept. She stated that it is now up to the speaker to engage with other party leaders to determine the next steps.
Andersson expressed readiness for a Prime Minister vote, which would currently involve a government made up solely of Social Democrats. However, Left Party deputy leader Ida Gabrielsson indicated that her party would oppose this setup, suggesting that other parties might do the same.
Green Party spokesperson Amanda Lind emphasized the preference for a majority government that includes all four parties, noting that discussions are ongoing but no consensus has been reached yet. Andersson called on parties to work constructively and prioritize policy, acknowledging that no party can expect to fulfill all its demands.
