Armenian Prime Minister Discusses Railway Reconstruction with Russian Railways CEO

Yerevan:Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Oleg Belozyorov, CEO of Russian Railways, to discuss reconstruction projects in Armenia. The meeting took place in Yerevan and focused on enhancing Armenia's railway system by integrating it with regional and international networks.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussion also covered the potential benefits of unblocking regional transport infrastructure. The talks emphasized making Armenia's railways competitive and integrating them into international transport routes.

The projects discussed included the Gyumri-Akhurik and Yeraskh-Nakhchivan railways. Both leaders addressed infrastructure development, management efficiency, and existing challenges. They agreed to form a joint working group to address these issues, find solutions, and determine future actions.

The South Caucasus Railway, managed by Russian Railways under a 30-year concession since 2008, operates Armenia's rail network. Armenia has expressed concerns that the agreement limits its competitive edge, while Russia has accused the West of exerting pressure on Armenia regarding the matter.
