Death Toll in Yemen’s Shabwa Rises to 73 Following Houthi Missile Attack

Shabwa:The death toll from a Houthi missile attack on a security training center in Yemen's southern Shabwa province has now reached 73, with 14 individuals still missing. This update was provided by the provincial governor, Awad bin al-Wazir, during a meeting to address the conditions of those injured in the attack that occurred on Monday.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Governor bin al-Wazir condemned the attack, labeling it an unprecedented crime, and called for accountability for those responsible. He also directed local authorities to continue providing medical treatment to the injured and support to the families of the deceased and missing.

Initial reports from Shabwa authorities indicated that at least 53 people had died and over 200 were injured when Houthi ballistic missiles struck the Martyr Ahmed al-Sulaimani Training Center, where new recruits for internal security were being trained. A Yemeni military spokesperson confirmed that three ballistic missiles were fired by the Houthis at the facility, which serves to train security and police personnel.

The Houthis have not yet issued a comment regarding the attack. Additionally, reports emerged of a separate incident in Taiz, where Houthi shelling resulted in the death of a girl and injuries to eight others, including women and children. The shelling, which occurred in the densely populated Sainah area, involved a Katyusha rocket fired from Houthi positions on Mount al-Waash.

In another deadly incident, a Houthi mortar round struck an ambulance attempting to evacuate Taiba Abdulraqeeb, an 18-year-old killed by Houthi gunfire. The attack resulted in the deaths of Abdulraqeeb and the ambulance driver, while a doctor was injured and the ambulance destroyed. These attacks are part of the ongoing conflict between the Houthis and forces aligned with Yemen's internationally recognized government, supported by the Saudi-led coalition. The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing since 2014, following the Houthi takeover of the capital Sanaa and much of the northern region.
