French Government Plans Extensive Security Deployment for Upcoming Protests

Paris:The French government has announced a significant deployment of security forces in anticipation of nationwide protests scheduled for Saturday. This decision comes as part of efforts to manage the second phase of ongoing mobilizations.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu addressed the National Assembly, stating that a "massive" security presence would be implemented to ensure order during the planned demonstrations. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez supported this approach, emphasizing an increase in both the resources and responsiveness of security deployments.

In addition to the security measures, the government has decided to extend overnight curfews in several cities for a second night, should the conditions necessitate it. This follows a weekend of violent protests against the rising cost of living. To further prevent unrest, the Paris police prefecture has issued orders prohibiting the transport of fuel and flammable gas in individual containers until Thursday. These measures apply throughout the Paris metropolitan area and also include a ban on carrying protective gear within 100 meters of educational institutions, along with restrictions on the purchase and possession of pyrotechnic devices.

The previous weekend saw approximately 550,000 participants in 110 demonstrations across France, including 110,000 in Paris, resulting in about 400 arrests nationwide.
