Rio de Janeiro: French President Emmanuel Macron praised the United States for allowing Ukraine to target Russian military positions with missiles. 'Our duty is to help Ukraine resist,' Macron told reporters Monday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. According to Anadolu Agency, Macron referred to the US decision as 'good' and noted that it was a response to a significant shift in the conflict, particularly highlighting the involvement of North Korean troops on Russia's side, on European soil. Macron described Russia's agreement with North Korea as 'escalatory' and termed it a 'rupture' in the ongoing conflict. On Sunday, outgoing US President Joe Biden authorized Kyiv to use American-made Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) for "limited strikes" within Russian territory. This decision followed repeated requests by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and allegations of North Korea aiding Russia's military efforts. US President-elect Donald Trump, who is set to take office in January, has expressed criticism over the extent of US support for Ukraine and has committed to ending the war that began in 2022. The US, South Korea, and Ukraine have accused North Korea of deploying troops to Kursk to support Russian forces, although Pyongyang has not confirmed these allegations.
