Erdogan Urges Incoming US Administration for Bold Peace Initiatives.

Rio de Janeiro: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his hope for significant steps towards global peace from the incoming US administration led by President-elect Donald Trump. Speaking at a news conference during the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Erdogan emphasized the need for "bolder, more prudent, and more supportive steps" from the US to foster peace, particularly in light of ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan criticized the UN Security Council for being an "elitist structure" that prioritizes the interests of its five permanent members over the broader UN membership. Trkiye has been vocal about the necessity for comprehensive reforms within the UN, especially concerning the Security Council, encapsulated in Erdogan's slogan, 'The world is bigger than five.' At the G20 summit, Erdogan underscored the importance of reforming global governance institutions on a fair and inclusive basis. Erdogan expressed disappointment in international orga nizations, citing their failures in addressing wars, natural disasters, and injustices. He highlighted the marginalization of regions such as Latin America, Africa, and Asia, whose voices are often ignored by current global mechanisms. Turning his attention to the Middle East, Erdogan criticized Israel for its actions in Gaza and Lebanon, which have resulted in significant civilian casualties. He condemned the support Israel receives from Western powers and called for more countries to recognize Palestinian statehood. Reaffirming Trkiye's commitment to supporting those in need, Erdogan highlighted his nation's efforts to aid people in Gaza and Lebanon. He noted that G20 leaders included references to Gaza in their final declaration, calling for cease-fires and cooperation on broader issues like climate change and poverty reduction. Despite facing Israeli attacks, Erdogan assured that Trkiye would continue to stand by the oppressed, emphasizing the risk of famine in Gaza due to blocked humanitarian aid. Erdo gan reiterated his call for a lasting cease-fire in Lebanon and stressed that Trkiye's issues are not with any specific nation or religion but with those perpetuating chaos in the region through occupation and invasion policies. He urged responsible states to impose measures against Israel based on international law, stating that Trkiye would persist in its struggle against oppression with the support of its allies. Additionally, Erdogan praised Brazil's efforts in fighting hunger and poverty, noting Trkiye's role as a founding member of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.
