Norfolk: The gunman who opened fire Thursday at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, killing one person and wounding two others before being neutralized, has been identified as a previously convicted supporter of the ISIS (Daesh) terror group, NBC reported.
According to Anadolu Agency, the shooter was identified as Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, 36, who had pleaded guilty in 2016 to attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison and five years of supervised release.
The shooting occurred shortly before 10:49 am local time (1549GMT) in Constant Hall, with university police, Norfolk police, and emergency personnel responding immediately. The university later confirmed that there was no longer a threat on its premises.
Two of the victims were transported by ambulance to the Level I trauma center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Unfortunately, one of those patients passed away, while the other remains in critical condition. A third victim took themselves to another hospital.
FBI Director Kash Patel stated that agency personnel are providing assistance and collaborating with local authorities concerning the incident. The university canceled all classes and operations on its main campus for the remainder of the day, urging people to avoid the area around Constant Hall while emergency personnel continued their work at the scene.
