Iraq Intercepts Four Suicide Drones Targeting Military Unit in Nineveh

Iraq: Iraq said Thursday evening that its forces had shot down four suicide drones targeting a military unit in Nineveh in the country's north. A statement by the Iraqi Defense Ministry reported that four explosive-laden drones aimed at engineering units of the 14th Infantry Division in Nineveh were intercepted in the Makhmour district before they could reach their target. No injuries or damage were reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasizing that the Iraqi armed forces remain at the 'highest level' of readiness to counter threats against the country's security and stability. The interception of these drones comes amid heightened regional tensions following a joint attack by Israel and the US on Iran since February 28, which has resulted in approximately 1,300 deaths and over 10,000 injuries, as reported by Iranian authorities.

In response to the attack, Tehran launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Iraq, and Gulf countries that host US military assets. The ongoing conflict has intensified security challenges in the region, prompting Iraq to bolster its defense measures in the face of potential threats.
