Nablus: The Israeli army detained the mayor of Beit Furik, municipal council members, and several other Palestinians during a raid in the northern West Bank, releasing them after several hours, local sources reported. The incident occurred on Saturday when Israeli forces, disguised as occupiers, conducted a raid east of Beit Furik in Nablus.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli military force held the mayor, council members, and several residents while preventing Palestinians from approaching the detention site. The detainees were released after several hours. The raid also involved the severe beating of a young Palestinian man and members of the municipal staff. Israeli forces reportedly blocked ambulances from reaching the injured man to administer first aid and transport him to a hospital.
Witnesses reported that Israeli soldiers and occupiers assaulted several Palestinians, including women, during the raid near the Abu Rafat Mosque. Residents had gathered near the site to demand the release of the detainees. The occupied West Bank has seen a continued escalation in attacks by the army and occupiers since the Gaza war in October 2023. This escalation has occurred alongside the expansion of illegal settlement outposts, the construction of occupier-only roads, and the implementation of tighter restrictions on Palestinian movement.
