Beirut: The Israeli army has once again issued evacuation warnings for residents of the southern suburbs of Beirut, urging them to leave the area immediately. The warnings were directed at residents of seven neighborhoods, including Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Hadath, Burj al-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir, and Chiyah.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee reiterated an earlier warning, emphasizing that activities by Hezbollah in the area were prompting the army to take action against the group. The military, however, claimed it did not intend to harm civilians, urging residents to evacuate for their safety and warning against returning until further notice. The statement highlighted the risk to those remaining near Hezbollah members or facilities, indicating that the Israeli army would not hesitate to strike.
The escalation follows Hezbollah's targeting of Israeli military sites on March 2, in response to ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreement in November 2024 and the killing of Iran's former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Israel has since expanded its military campaign with airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs and other regions in Lebanon.
Additionally, a limited ground incursion into southern Lebanon was launched by Israel on March 3, in collaboration with the US against Iran, which began on February 28. Lebanese authorities have reported that Israel's intensified attacks have resulted in 733 deaths, 1,933 injuries, and the displacement of approximately 822,000 people.
