Ankara: Trkiye and seven other countries have jointly condemned Israel's continued settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories and rejected the E1 settlement plan east of occupied East Jerusalem.
According to Anadolu Agency, the foreign ministers of Trkiye, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates issued a statement condemning Israel's "illegal settlement policies" and rejecting the E1 plan and related settlement activities. The ministers also condemned violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians and their property, citing violations of international law and UN resolutions, which they argue threaten regional and international peace and security.
The statement from the ministers warned that the E1 plan represents a "dangerous escalation" that promotes settlement expansion and annexation while undermining the geographical contiguity of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, particularly between the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The plan, they stated, threatens the viability of an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The ministers highlighted that such actions challenge international peace efforts, including US President Donald Trump's Comprehensive Plan, which rejects annexation and forced displacement. They reaffirmed that a two-state solution, grounded in international law and relevant UN resolutions, remains the only viable path to a just and lasting peace.
They expressed support for accountability measures, including international sanctions against those responsible for illegal settlements and those facilitating these activities. The ministers called for halting the E1 plan, rescinding related measures, and ceasing settlement activities aimed at altering the geographic and demographic character of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
Furthermore, they urged the UN Security Council and international actors to take "urgent and effective measures" to halt illegal settlement expansion and to protect Palestinians' rights, including their right to self-determination and an independent state.
