Trump Dismisses Interest in Nobel Peace Prize Amid Iran Tensions

Washington: US President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that he is not interested in winning the Nobel Peace Prize, responding to inquiries about whether the military campaign against Iran might impact his chances of receiving the prestigious award. "I don't know. I'm not interested in it," Trump remarked to the Washington Examiner, noting that the topic had not been part of his recent discussions with foreign leaders.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed uncertainty about whether the joint US-Israel military actions could influence the Nobel committee's decision in his favor. This statement represents a significant change in stance for the president, who previously asserted that he deserved the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in resolving global conflicts. The prize ultimately went to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who later presented her medal to Trump.

During the same interview on Thursday, Trump was questioned about Cuba, which he suggested could be the next focus of US foreign policy following Iran. He hinted at the possibility of a "friendly takeover" of Cuba by the US, though he conceded that it "may not be friendly." When questioned about the potential for military actions on the island to incite further conflict with regional drug cartels, Trump dismissed the notion, stating, "That's not going to happen."
