Oslo: Turkish defense company Repkon will establish a 155-millimeter artillery ammunition filling facility to strengthen the defense of Scandinavian countries in a new deal with Norwegian defense firm Nammo. The initiative is part of a broader effort to bolster national defense capabilities across the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Nordic Defense Cooperation (NORDEFCO), consisting of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, is actively seeking joint solutions to enhance defense capabilities. As part of these efforts, the Danish government signed a contract with Nammo to revive national ammunition production at the Elling plant, which in turn led to Nammo's collaboration with Repkon.
Repkon will be responsible for establishing a complete facility to fill TNT, IMX-101, and IMX-104 explosive materials into 155-millimeter artillery ammunition. The facility will also handle other modern and next-generation explosives, with operations designed to maximize automation and require minimal workforce.
Repkon is a significant player in the artillery filling industry, having established ammunition production lines in countries such as the US, Germany, Spain, Ukraine, Pakistan, and Azerbaijan. The company also expanded its expertise by acquiring Bowas, a defense firm with operations in Austria, Italy, and Switzerland, known for its design and production of equipment for explosives.
Nammo, based in Norway, is recognized globally as a leading supplier of specialized ammunition, shoulder-fired weapons, and rocket engines. It employs 3,700 individuals across 27 production plants in 11 countries, underscoring its extensive reach and capabilities in the defense sector.
